Goodbye Roach, Hello Tucson

The day after graduation, Ben and I said our farewells to Roach, Missouri and began our travels westward to Tucson. Tucson is known for its hot desert, but few explore what the desert really has to offer.

The annual cicada hunt

Every summer the whine of the cicadas lure the Hill family out into the desert to collect as many specimen as their plastic bug containers will hold.

A view from the back.

In case you're wondering what a cicada is...

...and why the Hills are so obsessed with them - good question.

Trivia: Uncle Ben, Noah and the ?
That's a tortilla on the plate, but what does Noah have between his fingers?? (click on image for closer inspection)

Noah's Hint: "It's so ugly! And soooo soft!"

Lovely, just lovely (the maggot). At least we never lived in a place called "Roach." The blog looks great.

As to why the Hills are so obsessed...it's not just cicadas; it's maggots, caterpillars, walking sticks, chickens, rabbits...anything that qualifies as a critter. I think the cicadas are especially entertaining because they buzz loudly and are fun to tie to a thread.
